Cld someone please let me know what Boris decided? Am guessing he postponed it (for fear of rotten tomatoes being thrown) and will decide in writing in the next few days?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273409189022605643.post-34312889180014450172014-03-24T20:10:20.504+00:002014-03-24T20:10:20.504+00:00Whataboutery from anonymous... not a real argument...Whataboutery from anonymous... not a real argument, just a troll's tactic. What about people in Syria, what about people in Sudan... anywhere you care to mention. This is something affecting Deptford! The development need not be as ridiculous as it is at the moment if the billionaire developers and Boris would only compromise a little - that's not a lot to ask of one of the richest people on earth. This is about housing shortages in Deptford, not poor people internationally, and the lack of anything remotely affordable in a massive new local scheme that will only profit obscenely wealthy Far Eastern investors and Murdoch. What about considering the area that is being talked about? I much prefer M.F's inclusive, fair world view than your vision of lords and serfs.JBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273409189022605643.post-44809591294606712312014-03-24T19:34:30.355+00:002014-03-24T19:34:30.355+00:00Way out of the league of Deptford locals? Then the poor people in the rest of the world. Please describe your perfect world in full as it seems a little unfinished. Its not a complete solution just thinking of the Deptford locals. I can assure you there are a lot worse. What about them?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3273409189022605643.post-8750186616842144552014-03-24T19:17:34.753+00:002014-03-24T19:17:34.753+00:00This is a loss for Deptford locals, and another re...This is a loss for Deptford locals, and another resounding victory for profiteering developers.

Out of 3,514 units only 14% are marked as affordable. A disgrace given that over 8,000 households are on the housing waiting list in Lewisham.

Furthermore, the terms of the 'affordable' housing mean that up to 80% of the market rent can be charged and still classed as affordable! Even with a paltry 20% reduction these are way out of the league of Deptford locals.

Let's look at this 14% more closely too - only 6% is ear-marked for social rents (at the ironically named 'affordable' rent) with the remaining 9% set aside as 'intermediate' housing; as 'Rent to Buy' or under some form of joint ownership. In a number of years, this 9% will soon be in private hands.

So we have a 3,514 unit development with a hilarious definition of 'affordable homes', the majority of which will soon dry-up.

With an average income in the borough of around £28,000 and a whopping 37% of children living in child poverty in Evelyn Ward (Convoys Wharf's home) it is clear - this development offers nothing to locals, and millions of pounds of profits for the developers and housing speculators.
